Steeped in history and
ancient gastronomic traditions the Azienda is a must for food
lovers and those in search of rural tranquility.
The azienda, located in the
midst of a clay area near Siena known as the Crete Senesi, has
been owned and managed by the same family for centuries. It is
a magnificent antique building weathered by countless seasons,
having with stood wars, famines and plagues.
Today it’s owners run a
fully organic and free range farm that produces wonderful
gourmet cheeses and pork products which guests are encourage
to try and take home with them. They can also ship the
products home for you, customs officials permitting. In the
winter it is possible to do a cheese making course. With
advance notice guided tours of the farm and it’s food curing
and producing rooms are available.
ACCOMODATION:
The structure is a large and sprawling building that has grown
up over the centuries. As well as the “Villa Padronale” or
nobile residence are 2 apartments, each sleeping 4 people,
situated on the 2nd floor of the main farm building.
Each apartment has its own
private entrance, directly from the garden. The apartments are
furnished with antique furniture and have their own heating
system. They are made of an open plan kitchen-dining area, 2
double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower. From their windows
you can see the beautiful Val d'Asso. A hair dryer is
available on request and there is a communal washer and dryer
for guests use.
THE GARDEN AND SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT:
At the bottom of the garden there is a small woodland where it
is possible to spend many hours relaxing in the shade of the
trees. For the past few years the owners have chosen to
cultivate the land organically (certificate AIAB). This means
a total respect and conservation of the surrounding
environment and the production of food products that taste
unlike any thing normally commercially available.
In the garden is a
children’s play ground. A BBQ, table and chairs are also
available for dining alfresco.

San Casciano dei
Bagni, with its 46 hot springs, has been famous since
ancient Roman times. Today the Centro Termale Fonteverde spa
is a place for relaxation and for rediscovering a sense of
well-being and psychophysical balance.
Celle
sul Rigo, or the ancient Castrum de Cellis, has the
singular plan of a Roman castrum. Three corner towers remain
of the castle, the biggest of which was part of the castle
donjon. There are a large number of Renaissance mansions with
portals and coats of arms in travertine, traces of a wealthy
land bourgeoisie.
In the
central farm building, delightful, completely separate
apartments form a small village, il Borgo, for eco-tourism
holidays.
Created in
the place of the old stables for horses, it is modeled on the
plan of a tiny rural village, with its small square, the inner
courtyard, and a garden for each unit.
A large
room with a cantina is open to the guests, and can also be
used for meetings, courses, and conferences.
The various
furnishings were made by local craftsmen in keeping with
Tuscan and Sienese styles.
Within the
classic warmth and simplicity of a rural home there is also
space, however, for modern comforts and conveniences, ensuring
a totally relaxing stay for our guests.
